12 April 2011, Feet

My obsession with feet. It started with this picture. I love it so much that I even framed up this picture. They belong to two very interesting women. I may write about them. But for now, let’s just talk feet.
I thought I could do a series of pictures on feet. I started experimenting. This is another one that I like.

This pair of feet belongs to an ex-cheerleader. It would be interesting if you could tell what a person does by looking at his or her feet. I remember many years back, Colors shot a series of hands; hands of a tofu maker, a grave digger, a mechanic, a pop star and so on. The hands looked very distinct. But no matter how hard I try, I could never tell what a person does just by looking at her feet. Perhaps the only telling signs are the scars that bad fitting shoes leave behind.

Then I thought it might be interesting if I shoot not just bare feet, but the sandals that go with them as well. But after a while, I stopped. I wasn’t sure if I was attracted to the feet or the shoes.

Unlike hands, feet aren’t the most attractive part of our body. Some women are uncomfortable when I told them I wanted to shoot their feet. This person tried to hide her toes. I think it is notbig deal. Then I also think it is a natural reaction. No one likes to show her ugly side.

But their reaction will be the complete opposite if I say: "Hey, I really love what on your feet. Can I take a picture?” I should add that, this is something I thought of in hindsight. I’m not that manipulative.

How a person wears her shoes can be interesting too. This one is suggesting something sexual. Maybe I’m the only one thinking that way.
I must add that I don’t have a foot fetish. It’s more like a foot fad.
